So you are having a new baby...

...and you want to do the newborn cloth nappy thing? Yay for you! You rock! Using cloth nappies is easy and fun. It's good for your baby, good for the environment, much cheaper than disposables, and an all round angelic thing to do. It's your call but we usually recommend that to stay sane with your first new baby, you use disposables for the first couple of weeks. New babies are really small, and if you are going to have a fit issue, you are going to have it right at the beginning when your baby has teeny tiny chicken legs. And very explosive poo. Not the best mix!
Most babies will fit the small size in all our products very early on. If you have a premmie baby you may want to look into newborn size covers, which we do have in stock, so drop us an email or pop into the shop to check them out. However, rest assured, that if you have a full term baby who grows normally, you will be safe as houses buying small size, and it will last a reasonable time before you have to upsize.
So what do you buy when it all looks so confusing? My personal recomendation for newborns is prefolds in a wrap. New babies need a LOT of changes (maybe 10-12 a day) and prefolds are a great way to build up a reasonable stash so you are not panicking about getting your washing done in those early days. You can get set up for around a hundred odd dollars which will keep you going for those first few months. At the same time if you want to check out fitted nappies (super absorbent and leakproof), pocket nappies (stylish and quick drying) or all in ones (trim and soooo easy), buy a few that appeal, and you will quickly know what suits. A trial pack (which you will find on our shopping page under 'packs') is also a good way to try all the different styles available so you can check out your favourites.
Most importantly, DON'T PANIC. Remember to get all the sleep you can, cuddle that baby all you can, and the nappies will sort themselves out.
